An Old-Fashioned Love Song

An Old-Fashioned Love Song - Michelle K. Grant 3.5
My first close encounter with Bdsm* and I have to admit it was a very good one. Seth is a newbie in the D/s world and very determined to follow his path toward submission. Thanks to the meeting with Malachi, a hot and very believable Dom, he’ll find a satisfying sexual relationship and much more. A supportive family acts as a well sketched side character.

Favorite quote:

In college, I figured out I was definitely bi. But recently a friend pointed out I am more pansexual than anything else.” “What does that even mean?” “It means among the people I have played with, you will find people of both gender identities, that don’t always match their gender of birth. I’m attracted to people of different races, body types, heights, hair coloring and personality.

*Side note: other reviewers pointed out that this is a light BDSM read; I found it quite heavy and realistic (breath play, ropes, whipping, gags..). Now I wonder what heavy BDSM is.. but I don’t want to find out. Please.

The Laws of Physics

The Laws of Physics - Claire Davis 2.5

I have mixed feelings about this, but overall I kinda of enjoyed it. At first Freddy got on my nerves, but the author somehow managed to change him from a TSTL character to a likeable one. The kinky bits were mixed with humour and I like authors who can do that. Nice short read, not to be taken too seriously.

Fighting Dirty

Fighting Dirty - Olley White Vividly sketched. Very good writing. Wow!

Playing with Two-Edged Swords

Playing with Two-Edged Swords - Roger Grace The acknowledgements at the beginning were very sweet.

Billy's Turn

Billy's Turn - Nick Pageant
3.5 stars

A really cute story, a little short but cute. Billy is a young shy boy suffering from a mild case of cerebral palsy. Seth Ryder is a handsome student with a really bad rep. Will their apparently fortuitous meeting transform in something more?

Billy’s shyness and naivety captured me. Loved how the Author dealt with his first time: hot and funny at the same time.

Keep lots of pistacchio ice cream at hand, you’ll need it.

Wood, Screws, & Nails

Wood, Screws, & Nails - Piper Vaughn, Kade Boehme
3.5

Nice hot hot hot story about Aaron, 37, a successful contractor, and Malachi, 21, Aaron's son roommate.
While working on renovating a family holiday house passion between them explodes.
Aaron's son's tantrums provide the required angst to make things harder for the two lovers. Hea guaranteed.
The "exotic" roots of the two MCs (Aaron's family is Italian, Malachi's is Brasilian) and the daddy kink (although only hinted) add a spicy component to the otherwise recycled plot.
Nothing special but the ingredients are well mixed.

My first BR with the lovely Mishyjo. I didn't screw up!! Hurrah!

This Hour I Lost

This Hour I Lost - Indra Vaughn A very challenging prompt developed in a short story (set in Rome, Italy) full of plot inconsistencies and “wtf?” moments.

As an Italian reader, I cannot refrain myself from pointing out that “Rico” and “Malachi” are not Italian names. No. Not at all.

Boystown 3: Two Nick Nowak Novellas

Boystown 3: Two Nick Nowak Novellas - Marshall Thornton
Third installment in the Boystown series (fourth if you count the prequel), this is so far my favorite one.

The spread of GRID*, and the rumors and reports about it, permeate the whole book. This gives a totally new perspective to Nick’s huge sexual “appetite”. The sense of impending doom gives a dark twist to all the impromptu hookups and random fucks: there’s a backroom’s bar scene, hot and steamy and at the same time sad and tragic, which will stay etched in my mind for multiple reasons.

But there’s much more: a nice and well done mystery plot, dry wit and a few glimpses of romance.

Awesome.

500 Kisses to Steal a Heart

500 Kisses to Steal a Heart - Anyta Sunday
2.5 rounded up

Childhood friends to enemies to lovers. Lots of kisses and "Mountain Dew" drinking. Cute and sweet.

However, knowing how good the author usually is, I held more expectations for this :(

Funny how numbers are often a recurring feature in Sunday's works (see [b:Taboo For You|17998193|Taboo For You|Anyta Sunday|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1369863298s/17998193.jpg|25255768])

I may have cried a little at the end.

The Lonely Drop

The Lonely Drop - Vanessa North The “friends to lovers theme”, tough not very original, has been executed perfectly. The heat level was beyond belief.

“You look completely lost and found. You look like a man should look on the verge of an orgasm. You look fierce and fine and so damned hot. All the guys in this room wish they were dancing with you, and they’re jealous because I’m the one holding you. They think I’m going to be fucking you later, and they get hard just thinking about it. About that face you’re making, and me causing it. How does that make you feel?

Horny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While reading this at work, (during my lunch break, of course) I almost assaulted a coworker of mine. When he’ll sue me, I’ll plead not guilty by reason of insanity and I’ll blame this amazing novel.

Highly recommended.

Worth Keeping

Worth Keeping - Susan Mac Nicol Dnf at 50%.

I really tried to finish this one, just to prove Loeder “certain people” wrong. But let’s face it, I can’t.

I’m tired of authors who employ the theme of male sexual abuse as a mere plot device and/or for a dramatic effect only. It sounds.. sick.

The plot: suicidal man meets suicidal man. After their double failed suicide attempt, their first thought is to be in each other’s pants. Sure, why not? But there’s a problem (life can’t be easy, you know). One of them never bottoms nor tops and the other doesn’t swallow..

description

In a vain attempt to give depth to the abuse theme, the Author is proud to let us know that Nick, raped horrifically as a boy, has gone through several therapists and psychological counselling.

They were called active sexual therapists. They would teach you about sex by doing it with you, teach you about how ways to give and receive pleasure in a way you were comfortable with. Based on how you reacted to men or women they tried to guide you into a path that felt right for you

I hope this a product of the Author’s wicked fantasy, because the thought of sending a teenager rape victim to a brothel concealed as a sex clinic really scares me to death. Please, tell me it isn’t true.

Oh, but there are a few hilarious moments, meant to lighten up the atmosphere, like when Owen spots a boy who’s gone to the lighthouse with his teacher and classmates on a school trip.

The boy reached down inside his trousers and started stroking himself. He was fairly hidden by the shade of the ridge of pine trees that fringed the hillside and no doubt thought he was out of sight. Owen nodded. “I take it you were enjoying the scenery then?” His eyes travelled down to the boys groin where the ridge of his erection could be clearly seen. The teenager glared at him. “And if I was? What’s it to you?”
Owen gritted his teeth at the teens attitude. “The man you were just wanking yourself off to happens to be my boyfriend. And while I’ll admit he’s a perfectly good male specimen to wank off to, I have a problem when someone else does it.”

I’ve been a horny teenager, but I never "chocked the chicken" in plain sight during a school trip. It wouldn’t have helped my (already low) popularity amongst my school friends. Am I the weird one?

And the evil ex-boyfriend was simply ridiculous.

As a friend of mine once said, time better spent doing grocery shopping .

Let's quickly forget about this one.

Carte Blanche

Carte Blanche - Nash Summers What a formidable story to kick off the LL event!
Loved it. I can't stop smiling, thinking of Jude and Devin happy traveling togheter far away from Jude's white prison.

“I asked about you. Your first and only response was to tell me about your disorder. You aren’t your disorder. You told me about all the things you don’t like and none of the things you do like. I just find it hard to believe someone like you is completely comprised of dislikes and not a single like.”

Broken Phoenix

Broken Phoenix - Edmond Manning Orgasmically fucktastic!!
eccentric tale about a broken sex-obsessed phoenix and his lost human mate. Sort of Stephen King's [b:The Gunslinger|43615|The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1)|Stephen King|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1375776480s/43615.jpg|46575] with a camp twist.
Giggle inducing and full of crazy dialogues.
I demand a sequel.
Kudos to the prompt author.

The Race for Second

The Race for Second - Chase Potter A very interesting debut novel written by a young writer.

Ethan, a 19 year old college sophomore spends his Austauschjahr (exchange year) in Freiburg, Germany. One of his three roommates is Daniel: though Daniel is initially unfriendly, their relationship slowly evolves in something deeper and complex. Even though this is not a proper MM romance, there’s a strong sexual tension lying underneath.

I loved the European setting and the author’s perspective; he did a very good job depicting the hardships of adapting to another culture.

While there were some parts I found disappointing and although the fact this story is told in the first person, present tense, style which I detest, overall I enjoyed this book and I’ll certainly look forward to Chase Potter’s next works.

Beauty And The Bookworm

Beauty And The Bookworm - Nick Pageant
3.5 rounded up*

Funny, quick and giggle-inducing read.

As Rosa, really wrote it's a less exhausting [b:Tell Me It's Real|17194490|Tell Me It's Real|T.J. Klune|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1357359699s/17194490.jpg|23666405].

I highlighted so many passages that my index finger is hurting.

Loved the book references.

"The Running Man" is a movie? I thought I was being original

*The fact that the author and I are GR friends or that I feel a sudden urge to marry ask him out did not affect in any way my rating.
